Cantica Gaudia

Ordinary Time, Late Summer: Tuesday Morning Prayer

Opening:  Your word is in all the world: it flashes out in every creature.

Canticle: Seek the Lord who is still to be found:
Call upon God who is yet at hand.
Return to the Lord, who will have compassion,
To our God, who will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain and snow come down from heaven
And return not again but water the earth,
Causing the earth to bring forth and sprout,
Giving seed to the sower and bread to the hungry,
So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth,
It shall not return to me empty,
But it shall accomplish that which I desire
And achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Psalm: Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens
And your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the strong mountains, your justice like the great deep;
You save both human and beast, O Lord.
How priceless is your love, O God!
Your people take refuge under the shadow of your wings.
They feast upon the abundance of your house;
You give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the well of life,
And in your light we see light.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever.  Amen.

Reading: God says: I am the day unto myself,
Not formed by the sun, but rather forming the sun, igniting it.
I am the understanding not understood, but rather
Allowing all understanding, illuminating it.

I am the one whose praise echoes on high.
I adorn all the earth.
I am the breeze that nurtures all things green.
I encourage blossoms to flourish with ripening fruits.
I am led by the spirit to feed the purest streams.
I am the rain coming from the dew that causes the grasses to laugh with the joy of life.
I call forth tears, the aroma of holy work.
I am the yearning for good.

The Lord’s Prayer

Abba our God,
Whom the heavens disclose,
May your name be held holy,
Your authority come.
May your longing be fulfilled
As in heaven, so on earth.
Give us today the bread of tomorrow,
And cancel our debts
As we have already forgiven our debtors.
Do not draw us in
To sinful enticement,
But set us free
From the grip of evil;
For authority and power and glory
Are yours alone, for ever.  Amen.

Prayer: God of the living and the dead, let our lives sing your praise. Make us the fragrance of your love. Rise in us, and awaken us from our slumber that we might live in your light. Amen.

Collect: Transforming God: lay your sacred hands on all the common things and small interests of our lives; bless, change and transfigure them and in them give us your very self. In the name of your Beloved, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Going Forth: May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
