Cantica Gaudia

Ordinary Time, Late Summer: Sunday Compline

Confession:  God our Father,
we come to you in sorrow for our sins.
For turning away from you,
and ignoring your will for our lives;
Father, forgive us: save us and help us.
For behaving just as we wish,
without thinking of you;
Father, forgive us: save us and help us.
For failing you by what we do,
and think and say;
Father, forgive us: save us and help us.
For letting ourselves be drawn away from you
by temptations in the world about us;
Father, forgive us: save us and help us.
For living as if we were ashamed
to belong to your Son;
Father, forgive us: save us and help us.

Canticle: Blessed are the poor in spirit
For the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Blessed are the sorrowful
For they shall find consolation.
Blessed are those of a gentle spirit
For they shall have the earth for their possession.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst to see right prevail
For they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are those who show mercy
For mercy shall be shown to them.
Blessed are those whose hearts are pure
For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers
For they shall be called God’s children.
Blessed are those who have suffered persecution for the cause of right
For the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

Reading: Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain vaillage, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken from her."

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
And deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
Now and for ever.  Amen.

Prayer:  O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Going Forth: Bless to us, O God, the moon that is above us, the earth that is beneath us, the friends who are around us, your image deep within us. Amen.
