Cantica Gaudia

Ordinary Time, Late Summer: Saturday Evening Prayer

Opening: Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; let the whole earth tremble before God.

Canticle: I pray that, according to the riches of God’s glory,
You may be strengthened in your inner being with power through the Holy Spirit.
May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith,
As you are rooted and grounded in love.
I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints,
What is the breadth and length and height and depth
Of the love of God for us, and that you may know the love of Christ
That surpasses knowledge,
And be filled with all the fullness of God.

Psalm: In you I put my trust
Let me never be ashamed—
Release me in your rightness
Bend your ear to me
Deliver me quickly
Be my rock of protection
Like a mountain my stronghold of safety
You are my rock and my stronghold
For the sake of your unsayableness
Lead me, guide me
Draw me out of the net
Set within the secret darkness
For you are my protection
I put my soul in your hands
And you hold it fast in your truth

Glory to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and shall be always.

Reading: What is my experience of God's will? Everyone is a traveler. Most all need lodging, food, and clothes.

I let enter my mouth what will enrich me. I wear what will make my eye content. I sleep where I will wake with the strength to deeply love all my mind can hold.

What is God's will for a wing? Every bird knows that.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be your Name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power and the glory,
For ever and ever.  Amen.

Prayer: Creator Spirit, wellspring of our lives, as the refreshing rain falls on the just and unjust alike, refresh us with your mercy, who know our own injustice.

As a stream flows steadily on, defying all the odds of stone and water, flow over every boundary and border that separates us from each other.

As the waters of our baptism washed over and welcomed us, renew us now in the newness of life and the unity of love.

As once we were held in the waters of our mother's womb, hold us in the power and peace of your abiding presence. Amen.

Collect: God, you teach our hearts to be true servants by the power of the Holy Spirit; grant us to serve you in righteousness by the same spirit and to be forever joyful in her holy comfort; through Christ our Lord, amen.

Going Forth: In the name of the true and living Holy One, who made us for love, who saved us by love, and who loves us still. Amen.
