Cantica Gaudia

Ordinary Time, Late Summer: Monday Compline

Confession: Merciful God
For the things we have done that we regret, forgive us.
For the things we have failed to do that we regret, forgive us.
For the times we have acted without love, forgive us.
For all the times we have reacted without thought, forgive us.
For all the times we have withdrawn care, forgive us.
For all the times we have failed to forgive, forgive us.

For hurtful words said and helpful words unsaid,
For unfinished tasks and unfulfilled hopes,
God of all time, forgive us and help us to lay down our burden of regret.

Canticle: Wisdom is an unfailing treasure for mortals;
Those who find wisdom gain friendship with God.
Wisdom is a breath of the power of God,
A pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty.
Wisdom is a reflection of the eternal light,
Untarnished mirror of God’s active power,
The image of God’s goodness.
In each generation Wisdom passes into holy souls,
Making them friends of God and prophets;
For God loves the one who lives with Wisdom.

Reading: Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, beloved, to admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them. See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for that is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise the words of prophets, but test everything; hold fast to what is good, abstain from every form of evil.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be your Name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power and the glory,
For ever and ever.  Amen.

Prayer:  O Christ, you came so that we might have life, and have it more abundantly. Grant us power in our love, strength in our humility, purity in our zeal, kindness in our laughter, and your peace in our hearts at all times. Amen.

Going Forth: May the Wisdom of God lead us in her marvelous way, be our shelter by day and a blaze of stars by night. May she stir our inmost being always to seek her, and the Wisdom, Love and Grace of God be upon us and remain with us always. Amen.
