Cantica Gaudia

Ordinary Time, Fall: Monday Compline

Confession: Merciful God, we confess that we have conformed our lives to the ways of the world and not the ways of your kingdom. We think of ourselves too highly and regard others as lowly.

We exalt possessions and power, when you alone are to be exalted. We let conflicts prevail over grace and divisions over harmony.

Have mercy upon us, we pray, forgive and transform us, that we may be holy and acceptable to you, discerning and doing your will. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Canticle: My soul rejoices in the Lord,
My spirit leaps before my God and savior,
Who favors his waiting servant.
Listen!
From now on, everyone will call me happy!
For the heavens did great things unto me,
Holy is his name
From this time and forever,
Mercy flows to those who fear him.
His strong arm spread,
He scatters the thoughts of arrogant hearts,
He snatches the powerful from high places
And lifts up the empty.
The hungry are fed delicious food
And the rich sent away with nothing.
His child Israel is clothed in forgiveness,
Just as he spoke to our fathers,
Abraham and his seed forever.

Reading: Spirituality is not to be learned
By flight from the world,
By running away from things,
Or by turning solitary, and going apart from the world.
Rather,
We must learn inner solitude
Wherever or with whomsoever we may be.
We must learn to penetrate things
And find God there.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be your Name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power and the glory,
For ever and ever.  Amen.

Prayer:  Let the light fall warm and red on the rock, let the birds sing their evening song, and let God's people say Amen.

Let the tools be stored away, let the work be over and done, and God's people say Amen.

Let the flowers close and the stars appear, let hearts be glad and minds be calm, and let God's people say Amen.

Going Forth: We entrust our lives to the Lord of the open spaces and the time of adventure; to the life that pulses through rain drenched streets and mountain heights; to the love that sustains us through feast and famine.

Let God's hope be a clearing sky before us, a compass in our heart, guiding us to where we belong. Amen.
