Cantica Gaudia
Season of Epiphany: Tuesday Morning Prayer
Opening: We are no longer strangers and sojourners, but citizens together with the saints, and members of the household of God.
Canticle: Listen to me, you lands
And hearken, you peoples from afar.
My servant, in the time of my favour I will answer you:
And in the day of salvation I will help you;
To restore the land
And share out afresh its desolate fields;
To say to the captives, “Go free,”
And to those in darkness, “Come forth into the light.”
They will feed beside the way
And find pasture on every barren hill.
They will neither hunger nor thirst,
Nor will the desert heat or the sun beat upon them,
For the One who loves them will guide them,
And lead them besides the springs of water.
Shout for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth:
Break forth, O mountains, into song.
For I the Lord will comfort my people,
And will have compassion on my own in their distress.Psalm: I offer you this life
In the beauty of the dappled world
Trembling before you
Earth’s utter presence
Saying fearlessly aloud among the nations:
God alone gives sovereignty
And the world is unshakable
Existence is just
Let the heavens rejoice
Let the earth dance
Let the sea churn with all the life that’s in it
Let the fields burst with plenty
And the trees of the forest brim with dignity
In song to you who comes with justice
Who comes with the sweetness of truthGlory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
Reading: Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.
The Lord’s Prayer: Holy One,
We honor your name.
Let the world know your justice
Here as everywhere.
Give us the food we need
For both the body and the soul.
Forgive us the wrongs we do
As we forgive the wrongs of others.
Keep us safe from the evil
At large or of our own making.
We trust you for you made us and
We are yours, now and always. Amen.Prayer: Thanks to you, O ever-gentle Christ,
For raising me freely from the black and darkness of last night
Into the kindly light of this day.
You pour life into me
Giving me speech, sense, desire,
Giving me thought and action.
My fame or repute will be just as you allow:
You mark the way before me.
As I remember saints who have journeyed before me,
Lord, teach me the way of their simplicity,
Strength with humility, at peace with you.
May I also go down the road you lead. Amen.Collect: Insistent God, by night and day you summon your slumbering people: so stir us with your voice and enlighten our lives with your grace that we give ourselves fully to Christ's call to mission and ministry. Amen.
Going forth: Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.
