Season of Epiphany: Monday Noonday Prayer

Opening:  With you, O God, is the well of life, and in your Light shall we see light.

Psalm: Happy are they who have not walked in the counsel of the wicked,
nor lingered in the way of sinners, nor sat in the seats of the scornful!
Their delight is in the law of the Lord,
and they meditate on God’s law day and night.
They are like trees planted by streams of water,
bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither;
everything they do shall prosper.

Glory to God, who made us, who bears our pain, and who loves us.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.  Amen.

Reading:  I fell because of wisdom, but was not destroyed:
through her I dived into the great sea,
and in those depths I seized a wealth-bestowing pearl.

I descended like the great iron anchor
men use to steady their ships
in the night on rough seas
and holding up the bright lamp that I there received,
I climbed the rope to the boat of understanding.

While in the dark sea, I slept,
and not overwhelmed there, dreamt:
a star blazed in my womb.

I marveled at that light,
and grasped it,
and brought it up to the sun.
I laid hold upon it
and will not let it go.

The Lord’s Prayer: Abba our God,
Whom the heavens disclose,
May your name be held holy,
Your authority come.
May your longing be fulfilled
As in heaven, so on earth.
Give us today the bread of tomorrow,
And cancel our debts
As we have already forgiven our debtors.
Do not draw us in
To sinful enticement,
But set us free
From the grip of evil;
For authority and power and glory
Are yours alone, for ever.  Amen.

Prayer:  Most powerful Holy Spirit,
come down upon us and subdue us

From heaven, where the ordinary is made glorious
and glory seems but ordinary
bathe us with the brilliance of your light like dew.  Amen.

Going forth: May the light of Christ shine in our hearts today and always.
