Season of Easter: Friday Morning Prayer

Opening: Send out your light and your truth, that they may lead me and bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling.

Canticle: Surely it is God who saves me;
I will trust in God and not be afraid.
For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense,
And will be my Savior.
Therefore you shall draw water with rejoicing from the springs of salvation
And on that day you shall say,
Give thanks to the Lord and call upon God’s name;
Make know the Lord’s deeds among the peoples;
See that they remember that the holy Name is exalted.
Sing the praises of the Lord, for God has done great things,
And this is known in all the world.
Cry aloud, inhabitants of Zion, ring out your joy,
For the great one in the midst of you is the Holy One of Israel.

Psalm: I will hold you highest in my heart
Will pronounce with blessing your unsayable name
Everywhere and always

Each of my days will be a blessing for you
And I will sing your unsayableness
Everywhere and always

You are large and largely to be embraced
Your greatness is unsearchable
Generation after generation shall praise your works
And they shall name and recount your powerful acts

I will stop
And consider
Your burning beauty
Your wondrous deeds
I will stop and speak
Of your awesome acts
I will stop and remember
Your greatness

Glory to God, Source of all being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.  Amen.

Reading: Just after daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach, but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, "Children, you have no fish, have you?" They answered him, "No." He said to them, "Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, for he was naked, and jumped into the sea. But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from land, only about a hundred yards off.

When they had gone ashore, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish that you have just caught." So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred fifty-three of them, and though there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?" because they knew it was the Lord.

The Lord’s Prayer: Eternal Spirit, Earth-maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver,
Source of all that is and that shall be,
Father and Mother of us all,
Loving God, in whom is heaven

The hallowing of your name echo through the universe!
The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world!
Your heavenly will be done by all created beings!
Your commonwealth of peace and freedom
Sustain our hope and come on earth.
With the bread we need for today, feed us.
In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us.
In times of temptation and test, strengthen us.
From trials too great to endure, spare us.
From the grip of all that is evil, free us.
For you reign in the glory of the power that is love,
Now and for ever.  Amen.

Prayer:  Rise up, O children of light, and let us give glory to the Lord who alone can save our souls. O Lord, as you withdraw sleep from the eyes of our body, grant us wakefulness of mind so that we may stand before you in awe and sing your praises worthily. Amen.

Collect: Holy God, you feed us with earthly and with spiritual food. Deathless, unalterable, you have chosen us, sinful as we are, to hear your word and to proclaim your truth. Alleluia! Make us salt of the earth, make us yeast in the loaf. Amen.

Going Forth: Let us go forth to love and serve the Lord. Alleluia!
